MEALS ON WHEELS
Catholic Charities Senior & Caregiver Support Services is in need of volunteers to help deliver noon meals to homebound seniors in Schenectady County. The Meals on Wheels Program ensures that these seniors are provided with a nutritious meal and have someone to check in with them daily. Without this daily contact, many of the seniors would have no other contact for days on end. A volunteer driver for the program would deliver meals on a set route at a set time. Drivers pick up their daily meals in ovens and coolers to ensure that proper and safe temperatures are maintained. Volunteers can choose to work as many or as few days a week as they desire, however consistency is vital.
Each person served by the Meals on Wheels Program must have regular contact and annual visits by the Program. Volunteers are also needed to conduct in-home check ins (re-assessments) for Meals on Wheels participants. Program staff will provide each volunteer with all of the information needed to conduct in-home assessments. In addition to in-home assessments, volunteers are also needed to conduct telephone checks in with clients served by the Program.
The Meals on Wheels Program serves over 400 people each day. The Program is also in need of office volunteers to help answer phones and complete various office tasks (data entry, filing, etc.)
