OLDER AMERICANS MONTH 2019

Each year, more and more older adults are making a positive impact in and around Schenectady County.  As volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates, and more, they offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community. That’s why Older Americans Month (OAM) has been recognizing the contributions of this growing population for 56 years.

Led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) each May, OAM provides resources to help older Americans stay healthy and independent, and resources to help communities support and celebrate their diversity.

This year’s OAM theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older adults and their communities to:

·     Connect with friends, family, and local services and resources.

·     Create through activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.

·     Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.

Catholic Charities Senior & Caregiver Support Services will celebrate OAM by promoting ways that community members of all ages can take part in helping Schenectady County thrive. Communities that support and recognize older adults are stronger! Join us in strengthening our community – this May and throughout the year. Visit the official OAM website for ideas and inspiration, and follow ACL on Twitter and Facebook.

Meals and Miles in May Campaign

Catholic Charities Senior & Caregiver Support Services (CCSCSS) is the Meals on Wheels provider for the senior population in Schenectady County.  Last year, we provided nearly 94,000 nutritious meals to 380 individuals. Similarly, our transportation service provides more than 500 clients the opportunity to get to and from their medical appointments, to our Friendship Cafés, or to our Dayhaven social adult day program.

Many of us take both food and transportation for granted; but to our senior population, these are invaluable lifelines helping them maintain dignity as well as the continued ability to live in their community.  Simply put, we are improving the quality of life for every client we serve and we ask for your assistance so we can do more.

We are pleased to have secured a number of partners for our “Meals and Miles in May” campaign, namely Fidelis Care and Home Instead Senior Care.  Thanks to these top sponsors, along with many other businesses, we have raised $5,000 towards this campaign.

Help us match this by making a contribution to our “Meals and Miles in May” effort. To support this cause, click on the following link and enter "Meals and Miles in May" in the Comments section. Click here to donate and support this effort!
